Student Impact Internship: Student Futures Ambassador

As part of our commitment to improving student belonging, career confidence and graduate outcomes across the Faculty of Environment & Social Sciences (FESS), we are recruiting a Student Futures Ambassador. Acting as a bridge between students, the Faculty Employability Team and the opportunities available across the University, you will help ensure that student voice is captured and embedded across our team's work, and that careers support feels accessible, relevant and tailored to the needs of FESS students.

Many students tell us they want careers support that reflects their subject area, aspirations and experiences, and is delivered by people who understand the opportunities and challenges they face. As a Student Futures Ambassador, you will help us better understand the needs and perspectives of FESS students, whilst encouraging greater engagement with careers, employability and professional development opportunities. You will also provide friendly, light-touch peer-to-peer support and signposting, helping fellow students navigate the resources, opportunities and services available to them.

Through gathering student feedback, creating engaging resources, providing peer-to-peer support, and sharing authentic student and graduate stories, you will play an active role in influencing future provision and building faculty-specific belonging, helping us to shape how employability support is promoted and delivered across the Faculty with a 'by students, for students' ethos.

• Be a friendly face for FESS students, helping to raise awareness of careers support, opportunities and events across the faculty
• Share your experiences and insights to help shape how careers and employability support is promoted and delivered to FESS students
• Use your creativity to test new ways of reaching and engaging students, helping to build a stronger sense of belonging and career confidence across the faculty
• Present the latest events, resources and opportunities to students in brief lecture shoutouts, and deliver light-touch peer-to-peer support in helping students find the right opportunities, career resources and services via drop-ins and faculty events
• Create and deliver student-led activities, resources and workshops that help tackle common challenges such as building confidence, exploring career options, networking and managing application stress
• Gather and collate inspiring stories and case studies from students, graduates, alumni and employers, to showcase the many different career paths available to FESS students
• Develop new (and improve existing) resources to make careers information feel more relevant, relatable, engaging and accessible to students
• Speak to fellow students to understand their interests, experiences and thoughts regarding careers and employability, identifying any concerns, aspirations, or areas of interest that they want to learn more about (e.g. employers, sectors and career topics etc)
• Work with the Faculty Employability Team to turn student feedback into new/improved ideas, events and initiatives that encourage greater engagement
• Collaborate with colleagues, employers, alumni and student representatives to help foster meaningful culture change and opportunities for our faculty’s students to connect with the world of work.

 This role will give opportunities for the intern to liaise and connect with alumni and employers. There will also be opportunity to join Student Staff Partnership Forums in order to strengthen communication, build further networks and as an additional means to gather student voice within Schools in FESS

• A current University of Leeds student for the duration of this internship (including postgraduates and those returning from work placement or study abroad years)
• You are passionate about supporting fellow students and enhancing student experience
• You have a strong interest in careers, employability, student engagement or peer support
• You can communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• You are approachable, inclusive and able to build positive relationships with others
• You can work independently while contributing positively to a team
• You have good organisational and time-management skills

• Experience of working in a student-facing, volunteering, ambassador or peer support role
