Are you kind, patient, reliable and looking to make a real difference to a young person's life?
I'm looking for a Personal Assistant to support my 16-year-old son, Ruben, who has additional needs.
Hours:
• 5 hours per week during term time
• 8 hours per week during school holidays (flexible by agreement)
Pay: £15.50 per hour (includes a top-up above the Direct Payment rate).
About Ruben
Ruben is a lovely young man with a great sense of humour and a real passion for rock music, collecting vinyl records, and classic TV shows such as The Dukes of Hazzard. We'd love to find someone who shares some of these interests or is happy to support him in enjoying them.
The role
The successful PA will support Ruben to:
- Access the local community and enjoy activities.
- Build his confidence and independence.
- Develop emotional regulation strategies and coping skills.
- Learn important life skills such as road safety, stranger awareness and appropriate social behaviour.
- Encourage positive interactions and help him make safe, informed choices.
- Build a trusting, consistent and supportive relationship while promoting his wellbeing.
About Ruben's needs
Ruben has misophonia, a condition where certain sounds can trigger a very strong emotional response. His main trigger is coughing. We're looking for someone who is calm, patient and understanding. Any previous knowledge or experience of misophonia would be a real advantage, although training and guidance can be provided.
We're looking for someone who is:
✔ Kind, patient and understanding.
✔ Calm and able to support emotional regulation.
✔ Reliable, trustworthy and consistent.
✔ Confident encouraging independence while maintaining safety.
✔ A driver with access to a car would be an advantage.
✔ Experience supporting young people with additional needs is welcome, and knowledge of misophonia would be highly valued.
The post is subject to references and an enhanced DBS check.
If you think you'd be a good fit, or would like to know more, please send me a private message. I'd really appreciate it if you could share this post with anyone who may be interested.
Thank you! 😊
