Organisation and Project Outline

Bramley Elderly Action (BEA) and OWLS are two of the neighbourhood network schemes in Leeds, schemes that provide a range of health improvement activities for people aged 60+ living independently in West and Northwest Leeds. Our core purpose is to provide support and opportunities for local older people living in BEA’s area (Bramley, Swinnow and parts of Stanningley), and in the OWLS area (Headingley, Hyde Park, Burley, Little Woodhouse and parts of Kirkstall). We also contribute to and support the wider local community to which we belong.

 

We are looking for an intern to support the delivery of our 8 Step Funding Plan. In particular, we need a capable and motivated person to help us deliver Step 3 - Market a soft sell donation / legacy scheme. Our target market will largely be our 1,700 members and we have lots of ideas as to how we can seek these additional funds but are open to appropriate new ideas. We require a capable and motivated person to work alongside our CEO to help fund our important work. 

Main Duties and Objectives

●       Help develop and deliver regular donations from our members and research into a voluntary paid membership

●       Help to deliver our legacy scheme

●       Develop and help deliver our Lucky Numbers Scheme and the collection of tins

●       Help develop and deliver our Pay What You Can approach

●       Draft internal and external communications

●       Prepare posts or content to be used across BEA and OWLS social media platforms and identify ways to drive engagement, and keep ahead of

●       Meet with members of BEA and OWLS staff to discuss promotion for upcoming events and activities

●       Produce reports including analytics to inform strategy

●       Reviewing the success of fundraising with the CEO.

The post holder may also be required to undertake other general duties as discussed and agreed

The successful candidate will help us to deliver our funding plan, will get experience of working in a medium sized charitable organisation that has an important role in supporting local older people. Our CEO has thirty years of experience of fundraising and has successfully attracted financial support from all aspects of charitable giving (e.g. contracts, grants, legacies, local fundraising, crowdfunding, corporate giving, payments-in-kind, sponsorship). We also have a supportive relationship with a local marketing company who may be able to offer marketing mentorship and support our successful candidate.

Person Specification - Essential Criteria

●       Current University of Leeds student

●       Experience of fundraising and creating marketing materials

●       Ability to create a range of materials, from posters to use of social media

●       Practical experience of using social media, website software and content management systems

●       A creative thinker who can generate ideas and engage a range of stakeholders

●       Can demonstrate creativity and design skills

●       Time management skills, in order to juggle a full workload with competing priorities

●       Clear and concise communicator - both written and spoken

●       Positive, solutions-focused attitude

●       Willing to working directly with colleagues to deliver work.

 

You are not expected to have experience of all of the above, but a basic aptitude and willingness to learn in the majority is required.
