Job Description/Duties

Internship open to University of Leeds students only

This role will be based on the university campus with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner.  We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements

Are you a University of Leeds student looking to gain experience from a placement? Are you passionate about increasing visibility of under-represented communities? Do you want to help challenge the narratives the University’s Special Collections currently seem to tell?

Special Collections & Galleries is a department of the University Library, looking after collections ranging from the University’s art collection through to unique literary manuscripts. The collections are potentially a rich resource for telling the diverse stories that make-up the University’s history. Following on from a pilot internship looking at LGBTQ+ representation in our collections, we have an opportunity for a further internship to continue this work. This internship will explore how we can apply information statements to collection descriptions that invite researchers to view collections through an LGBTQ+ lens. This provides us with a way to open up collections to the possibility of LGBTQ+ histories without prescribing specific terms to people who are unable to self[1]identify.

This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Information on other visa options is available at: https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas

Fixed Term role (350 hours to be worked over several months to complete a specific task).  A working pattern will be agreed upon at the start of the internship, tailored to the student's availability and course schedule.
